7:30 a.m. the alarm rings, with an additional 5 hits to the snooze button. It’s time to start another day of classes, lesson planning and student teaching. We are tired from the night before so it’s time to whip out the instant coffee. There is no need to try and browse the web because again the internet won’t work, but that’s ok because now we have time to put away our freshly washed and folded clothes (thank you Stepanka)
9:00 on the dot we’re out the door and down the stairs (not one, not two, but three flights of concrete steps) through the locked door and through the locked gate, down the hill we go and we have now made it to the tram stop. On the look out for #5 or #26, we hope it’s #26 as there is usually more room and there’s a good chance it’s a new tram.
Three stops away we get off at Náměstí Republiky. Up more stairs we go to The Language House. Class begins at 9:30 and we are ready for whatever jokes Chris throws our way. “Oh yes, we go to the nature, it is our fantasy.” After so much fantasy about the nature we are in much need of our good friend Paul by the time our 11:00 break comes. An expresso, cheese bread and another class down it is now time to begin the lesson planning… the question is where the hell to begin? If you’re lucky enough to have your lessons at 5 at The Language House then 4 hours is plenty for lesson planning. We think, research, stare at a wall, think some more and then wah-la an ESA formatted lesson plan is conceived.
5:00 our lessons begin. We elicit, CCQ and hope that by the end of our 45 minutes our students have understood what we were attempting to teach. Whether the lesson went good or bad it doesn’t matter because it is now time to relax with our new friends and enjoy a $1 beer at our favorite cafe. After a great night out on the town, tomorrow will be a brunch at The Tavern day (our typical Saturday and usually Sunday spot) but until then, it is snowing and Prague couldn’t look more like a fairytale.
